Copyright can be positive and helpful to authors, but in general it benefits the people at the top (taking into account that, apparently, corporations can be people in the eyes of the law). These kinds of laws keep cultural and economic wealth in possession of a single family/entity for way too long, and that is in the best of cases. In the worst of cases an author’s creations get completely forgotten. In both cases most people lose.
